The Solution
Working with JFA Purple Orange, who led the project, we refreshed the Peer Connect logo and designed and built a new accessible website.
The logo refresh modernised the existing identity while preserving recognition. We introduced new accessible colour combinations and created a visual identity that sits comfortably within the JFA Purple Orange family while maintaining a distinct identity for Peer Connect.
Built to WCAG 2.2 AA standards, the new website includes Google Translate and a dedicated Easy English section to help make information accessible to a wider range of people.
We also restructured how information is organised, creating two searchable databases. The Peer Network database makes it easier to explore groups by factors such as location, group type and focus. The Resource database helps people find relevant information through search and filters, making the collection of resources easier to navigate.
To support the creation of practical resources, we designed a template that can be used to develop materials such as checklists and workbooks. These resources answer common questions about peer groups and provide practical guidance for people looking to find, start or lead a group.
Co-design was central to the project. The new website was co-designed by people with disability and JFA Purple Orange, with JFA Purple Orange’s peer co-design group meeting regularly throughout the process. We met with the group at key stages to gather feedback on wireframes, designs and working prototypes. Their input helped us test ideas, validate decisions and enrich the site, ensuring the final website was informed by lived experience and the needs of the people it was designed to serve.
The result is a refreshed brand identity and a contemporary, accessible website that makes it simpler for people with disability to find information, explore peer networks and access resources to help them connect with others.
"From day one of the project, Freerange Future felt like part of our team. They cared as deeply about getting it right as we did, guiding us through each stage, answering all our questions and always looking for ways to make the site better. Their expertise in website accessibility was exceptional, and they showed up to co-design sessions ready to listen, learn and turn feedback into thoughtful solutions. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The result is a welcoming, accessible and beautifully designed website that we’re incredibly proud of. We recommend Nick and his team without hesitation."
